“Dance Exchange/Toolbox: Strategies for Creating Movement” with Elizabeth Johnson & Jame McCray

This workshop will have you moving with meaning, and creating choreography from content. Learn and practice methods for devising original work and generating movement in an environment that cultivates creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. The workshop will focus on tools drawn from the Dance Exchange’s extraordinary toolbox for developing movement and choreography with applications ranging from schools to community work to dance companies.

Plastique Animé is the art of interpreting a piece of music in movement in a way that makes the music visible. Coming from the music education approach named after Swiss composer and music educator, Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, called Dalcroze Eurhythmics, plastique animé is a tool for deepening students’ musicianship by embodying the music.

Erin Crawley-Woods Movement for Mercy: Teaching Dance to Incarcerated Youth

CREATIVE MOVEMENT STORIES FOR YOUNG DANCERS

Mady Cantor will share field-tested movement stories which incorporate skill-building, creative work, humor, and fun. Come explore the physical, cognitive and playful possibilities of storytelling through movement. The written stories and music will be provided. Learn them on Sunday, use them on Monday.
