Join DANCE TAG for a chance to experience ballet teaching from the “inside-out”. Megan Flynn’s pedagogy draws from a variety of somatic practices including Pilates and Laban Movement Analysis. Her ballet classes are rooted in the awareness of spinal and pelvic alignment, breath, core support and use of the pelvic floor. She develops sequences that engage Mobility-Stability, integrate the Patterns of Total Body Connectivity, and emphasize musicality and spatial awareness. The TAG session will include a typical ballet class structure, taught ‘transparently’ with explanations of the somatic ideas embedded in it. And it’s not just for ballet! This approach translates well to many kinds of dance teaching and many age groups. Big, bold, luscious dancing, from the inside-out.
Megan Flynn is currently an Assistant Professor in Dance at Muhlenberg College and the Artistic Director of the Philadelphia-based Megan Flynn Dance Company. She earned an MFA in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, and is a fully-certified Pilates Instructor. She received a BFA from Tulane University and a Professional Diploma from Trinity-Laban in London. Megan performed with David Parker & The Bang Group, Eliza Miller Dance, Kathy Westwater and EgoArt, Inc. in New York City, Boston and abroad. Teaching, choreographing and performing have taken her across the US, England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Russia.Location: Community Education Center (CEC)3500 Lancaster Ave.Philadelphia, PA 19104See map: Google Maps
