Join DanceTAG for a double workshop on teaching the under-five crowd with two experienced teaching artists. Kaye Fernandez will share her approach to thematic teaching as a means to cognitive, social and emotional skills, developed at Kaleidoscope, Settlement Music School’s award-winning arts-centered pre-school. Loren Groenendaal will draw on her own discoveries as well as insight from her Laban Move-ment Analysis training, work with Reggio-Emilia based schools, and influence from her own childhood teacher Betty Jane Dittmar. Real live children welcome to take part.
Kaye Fernandez received a Bachelor of Classical Dance from the National School of Ballet in Peru and danced for ballet companies in Lima for 12 years. She moved to the US is 1987 to attend the University of the Arts and Cabrini College and began teaching Creative Movement in the Kaleidoscope program in 1996. She offers teacher training and professional development workshops and collaborates with the Hispanic community.
Loren Groenendaal’s dance learning stated at age six with Betty Jane Dittmar, a master teacher in State Col-lege, PA. Loren has been teaching creative dance for 12 years and now teaches it inde-pendently at Studio 34 in West Phila, the Free Library of Phila and was recently hired at the Germantown branch of Kaleidoscope. She dances and choreographs for her own Phila-based contemporary company, Vervet Dance, hosts many contact im-provisation events, and performs classical Balinese dance with Gamelan Semara San-ti. She holds a BA in visual arts and dance from Oberlin College, an MFA in chore-ography from the University of NC at Greensboro, and is a Certified Movement Analyst through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies.Location: The Performance Garage1515 Brandywine StreetPhiladelphia, PASee map: Google Maps
