Include social dance forms in your teaching practice by jumping into a quick primer with Bob Butryn, one of Philadelphia’s leading social dance teachers.  We’ll learn time-tested dances such as swing, salsa, rumba, and waltz.   Use them “as is” or as fuel for creative applications in teaching, from rhythmic exploration to partner work and beyond.  Come to learn the dances and to brainstorm the possibilities.

Bob Butryn is a theatrical performer of partner dance as well as musician specializing in sax, clarinet and flute.  He has studied dance in a way that resembles the way craftsman learned from the masters many centuries ago.  He located the masters in every style of dance and studied with them.  For example, with swing dancing, Bob studied with the legendary Frankie Manning in New York.  Frankie was one of the originators of Lindy hop, the early form of swing that bridges the gap between the Charleston and today’s swing dancing.  Bob won the National Lindy Hop Competition (team division) in New York.   Bob has choreographed and taught for numerous organizations such as Quintessence Theatre, Germantown Friends School and the Augusta Heritage Festival.Location: Performance Garage1515 Brandywine StreetPhiladelphia, PA 19130Phone: 215 546 2552See map: Google Maps
