Come to TAG to learn about Project Based Learning and how it can be applied to dance from E. Brown. She uses it as the organizing structure for her teaching at the arts-based charter school in Chester. PBL involves a “driving question,” research, collaboration, and performance. She will show clips of her students’ work and then lead the participants through a sample PBL experience. Publicly funded after-school arts programs in Philadelphia now require that staff know how to use PBL. Here’s a great chance to learn more about it.
E. Brown is a dedicated arts educator/artist, holding a Masters in Urban Studies (with a focus in Youth Leadership & Arts in Transformation) and a double major from Temple University in Theater and African American Studies, and a Certificate in Performing Arts Ritual. She has worked locally and abroad, in Europe and throughout western and southern Africa, using her talents as a way to develop artistic growth and change from the inside out. E. Brown has worked implementing and instructing educators in the PBL (Project Based Learning) model for several years and continues to use PBL at the Chester Charter School for the Arts as a way to teach young dancer how to use the arts as a lens to solve problems.
