Seasoned teaching artists and physical theatre makers Tasha Milkman and Maryruth Stine team up to offer a unique opportunity to discover how silent stories weave strong webs between performer and audience, action and imagination. This workshop will include a warm-up and skill building activities in mime and expression that will explore storytelling, character, and performance. Look forward to short performances that will change your definition of mime, and absorb new skills for solo and ensemble pieces. Whether you’re a performer looking to develop acting and movement skills or an educator looking for more ways to activate your students, this workshop is for everybody interested in building communication and connection onstage and in the classroom!

Maryruth (MR) Stine is a performer and educator raised in Baltimore and Elmwood, West Virginia. MR’s principal focus is on community-driven projects which combine elements of commedia dell’arte, puppetry, and mask to strike a balance of silly stories and social critique. After touring multiple projects from northern Canada to southern India, MR is now a Resident Teaching Artist at Philly Young Playwright and onstage (sometimes in drag) throughout the Northeast.

Tasha Milkman is a performer, teaching artist, and theater maker originally from Denver, Colorado. She is the Creative and Education Director for Broken Box Mime Theater, a collaborative company in New York that tells contemporary original stories using classic mime technique. Tasha frequently devises and performs in mime and has worked extensively as a teaching artist in both NYC and Philadelphia. She holds an Masters in Education from UPenn and is currently pursuing an MFA in acting at Rutgers University.
