This workshop will have you moving with meaning, and creating choreography from content. Learn and practice methods for devising original work and generating movement in an environment that cultivates creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. The workshop will focus on tools drawn from the Dance Exchange’s extraordinary toolbox for developing movement and choreography with applications ranging from schools to community work to dance companies. 

Artists

Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth (EJ) Johnson is a choreographer, dancer, and educator with a focus in socially engaged dance practices. EJ connects communities through choreography, creating dance that promotes civic dialogue, and designing participatory experiences that apply artistic practices in multiple contexts. She has a particular interest in working with youth and elders, developing embodied structures for science learning, and promoting leadership development through the arts. EJ has been connected to Dance Exchange (full or part time) since 1998 and is currently an Associate Artistic Director and Director of Partnerships. 

Jamē McCray

Jamē McCray is an interdisciplinary ecologist working at the intersections between ecology, human behavior and the performing arts. Also a dancer and choreographer, she collaborates on ecological theater and dance projects as a way to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and societal action. Jamē has developed science education programs for a wide variety of audiences, from K-16 students to adults. Currently she works as an environmental social scientist for Delaware Sea Grant and is an associate artist with the Dance Exchange and the Superhero Clubhouse.Location: CEC Education Center3500 Lancaster Ave.Philadelphia, PA 19104See map: Google Maps
